On our way to the Smoky Mountains we encountered major flooding along the Ohio River, forcing detours through Marion into Kentucky wilderness, past the Bigfoot statues in Hopkinsville and the Coon Dog Café to downtown Nashville.

Headed to Broadway. Halfway through our meal I noticed a tidy well-manicured church across the street. Wondered what it was…Oh, yeah, that.

We found Nashville’s monument to the blues, the legendary Bluebird Café, in a nondescript strip mall where you can get your hair done before hearing the echoes of Grammy and CMA award winner Mike Henderson (Bel Airs, SteelDrivers, Hell Band) who held court here on Monday nights before his untimely demise. If nobody has written a song about getting the blues between a barber shop and a beauty shop, I will volunteer.
