Graveyards hold a special fascination for me. If you’ve read any of my books, you’ll agree. This one may have the best view I’ve ever experienced. Built centuries ago on a mountaintop overlooking Villefranche, the town of Eze Is a three-dimensional medieval maze.

Perched on a cliff, the small cemetery reminds me of walking the narrow gauntlet through a Pullman car, berths stacked left and right, no wasted space.

As I snapped photos of the graves and mausoleums, a local urged me to photograph the grave of Francis Blanche. I obliged as he told me the story.

Francis Blanche was a famous comedian in France during the 1950s and 60s who parodied classical songs and appeared in at least two movies with Brigitte Bardot.

Leaving this cemetery perch, I pinballed down the hill, passing the parfumerie Fragonard, because people prefer fragrant nards, I guess.
